What: Blow The Whistle Essay Contest

In order to win the contest, eligible contestants must submit an essay (1000-2000 words long) detailing a time in their lives when they “Blew the Whistle.” This could be anything including something at work, school, home, or even at the grocery store! Here’s an example:

Essay Topic Example: Back in college, Amy worked at her school’s football stadium on campus. Her job was to sell Dippin’ Dots to fans looking for a treat. At the end of the day, her boss would count the cups left, and match up the cash in the register. The cash always matched up, so there was no problem. However, she noticed her co-worker Scott would always sell a much smaller amount of cups, but his register would always balance. Upon a little inspection, she realized Scott had previously taken a sleeve of cups from the storage closet that never was discovered as missing. When people would pay with cash, he would pocket the cash that was exchanged for the Dippin’ Dots, and then replace the cup in the daily inventory. Amy was a little hesitant because it wasn’t directly affecting her, but she went ahead and reported it to her boss. Her boss had discovered that over the course of the season, Scott had stolen an estimated $2000 from the company. The company gave half their profits to athletics scholarships, so not only was Scott stealing from the company, he was stealing from student-athletes as well. Amy as commended for her discovery, and in turn received an hourly raise, as well as a promotion she had been wanting.
